Ultrasound for Respiratory Therapists

WURT ASAP

Course description

The Ultrasound for Respiratory Therapists course is designed for physiotherapists with expertise in respiratory physiotherapy who wish to expand their skills in point-of-care ultrasound. This course equips physiotherapists with the knowledge and practical tools necessary for performing and interpreting thoracic ultrasound images, with a focus on managing patients in acute, urgent, and critical situations.

Participants will learn how to integrate ultrasound into their clinical practice to assess and monitor respiratory conditions, improving patient outcomes in emergency and critical care settings.

Course content

The Ultrasound for Respiratory Therapists aims to enhance the physiotherapists clinical practice with the integration of point-of-care thoracic ultrasound. This course provides the essential tools for performing and interpreting lung ultrasound, including the Lung Ultrasound Score (LUS), a key outcome measure gaining increasing importance in evidence-based medicine.

The LUS offers a standardized approach to assessing lung conditions, improving clinical decision-making and patient management. The course is structured in two-day format and is divided into three main parts: Oral Presentations, Interactive Discussions of real Clinical Cases, and Hands-On Practice with Mentoring on healthy models. Participants will receive minimal theoretical exposure, followed by extensive practical training, ensuring they gain hands-on experience in using lung ultrasound effectively.

The training is led by experts in point-of-care ultrasound, who bring a wealth of experience in both clinical practice and education. They will guide participants through simulations, interactive cases, and practical applications, equipping them with the skills needed to incorporate ultrasound into their daily clinical work, particularly in respiratory care and critical settings.
