POCUS in ECMO by Dr. Hatem Soliman
The use of extracorporeal support to support the circulation and respiratory system is highly invasive. Whilst potentially life saving, the management strategies in order to improve patient outcomes requires strict attention to detail. At the same time, the list of complications that can occur is extensive.
In this talk, Prof Soliman will share his extensive experience on how point-of-care ultrasound in a holistic manner can help guide patient management and reduce complications. It is not just about imaging the heart and lung, hear how ultrasound assessment of the circulation and other organs can be used on a daily basis.
TEE in ED/Cardiac arrest by Dr. Adi Osman
The use of ultrasound, including transthoracic echocardiography, is becoming more common and routine in cardiac arrest. Whilst priority is still uninterrupted chest compressions, ultrasound adds a wealth of information to guide resuscitation during and after the arrest.
Less routine is the use of transoesophageal echocardiography in the context of cardiac arrest. The immediate response would probably be raised eyebrows. Is it even feasible? What benefit would it have over transthoracic echocardiography?
Come listen to one of the pioneers of transoesophageal echocardiography (and indeed ultrasound), Dr Adi Osman as he shares his experience. He has been utilising whole body ultrasound in his emergency department in Malaysia. Even more impressive is the fact that he has established a Emergency Medicine/Critical Care Ultrasound fellowship where he trains the next generation of colleagues these useful skills.

Dr. Osman is the Senior Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care in the ED of the Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh, Malaysia.
He obtained his M. Med (EM) in 2003 and did a fellowship in Critical Care and fellowship in Critical Care Ultrasound in Milan Italy in 2011.
Dr. Osman has been a member of the Board of Directors of WINFOCUS for many years and has been an associate editor for The Ultrasound Journal since 2014.
He is one of the founder of WINFOCUS Malaysia and one of the pioneer group in introducing usage of TEE in Emergency Department since 2011 .
He currently serves as a National Coordinator for the emergency critical care fellowship program at the Ministry of Health in Malaysia.
He has received national acclaim and recognition for his contributions to emergency preparedness and the emergency care system in Malaysia and is currently serving as the Director for Emergency and Trauma services in the State of Perak.
He is one of the appointed supervisors for the European Diploma in Advanced Critical Care Echocardiography (EDEC) organized by European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM).

Dr. Olusanya is a U.K. Intensive Care Society Council member, an associate editor of the Journal of the Intensive Care Society, and an for the POCUS Journal.
He is accredited in Advanced Transthoracic echocardiography, and maintains an interest in whole body ultrasound- particularly in the haemodynamically unstable patient.

Dr. Wong has been a consultant in anaesthesia & intensive care since 2015, currently at King’s College Hospital in London. Within the field of ultrasound, his focus has been on training, accreditation, assessment of organ perfusion, and right heart imaging. His research includes clinical governance, safety, medical education, and professional well-being.
He is a member of the Intensive Care Society FUSIC Committee; he sits on the ESICM Executive Committee and is an examiner for the European Diploma of Intensive Care Medicine. He is on the executive committee of the International Fluid Academy and is the ex- chair of the Social Media and Digital Content Committee of ESICM.
