Ultrasound Course | Life Support Basic Level | Croatia

University Hospital Zagreb, Hospital Rebro, Dermatology Clinic Hall.

March 16th – 17th, 2026

An intensive, hands-on course in point-of-care ultrasound for life support, emergency care, and critical care. Learn to acquire and interpret ultrasound images at the bedside, integrating POCUS into the ABCDE approach and time-critical clinical protocols.

Key applications: Lung · Heart (FoCUS) · Abdomen (FAST) · DVT
Format: In-person · Theory + Hands-on · Small groups
Prerequisites: No prior ultrasound experience required

Why choose WINFOCUS USLS?

This in-person, theory-and-practice course is part of the WINFOCUS curriculum and is designed to train participants in multifocal ultrasound, “head-to-toe,” with a focus on the acutely ill and critically ill patient. The training is oriented toward faster decision-making, improved diagnostic accuracy, and stronger clinical monitoring in emergency and ICU settings.

Why this course:
  • Build clinical confidence using ultrasound at the point of care
  • Structured protocols for time-sensitive scenarios
  • Intensive hands-on practice in small groups, with direct instructor feedback
  • Official WINFOCUS course with an international attendance certificate
  • No prior ultrasound experience required

This in-person, theory-and-practice course is grounded in published scientific evidence and the experience of international experts. By the end of the course, participants will be able to acquire reference images, interpret them in clinical context, and integrate them into protocols for acute/critical illness.

During 2 intensive training days, you will:
  • Master ultrasound fundamentals and knobology (image optimization)
  • Identify critical lung conditions: pneumothorax, pulmonary edema, pleural effusion
  • Perform rapid emergency protocols: cardiac FoCUS and abdominal FAST
  • Recognize sonographic signs suggestive of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
  • Integrate bedside ultrasound into the ABCDE approach in emergency care and the ICU

Audience

WINFOCUS USLS (Ultrasound in Life Support) is intended for physicians and other healthcare professionals caring for patients in acute, urgent, or critical conditions in pre-hospital and in-hospital environments.

The course aims to enable participants to:
  • Acquire and interpret images at the point of care
  • Support diagnosis, treatment decisions, and monitoring in emergency and ICU settings
  • Use ultrasound as an extension of the physical exam, “head-to-toe,” integrated into the ABCDE approach
Especially recommended for:
  • Emergency and acute care physicians
  • Intensivists and anesthesiologists
  • Internists, cardiologists, and physicians in training
  • Pre-hospital critical care providers (e.g., paramedics/EMS clinicians)

Certification and Trust (Hands-on + Assessment + Certificates)

Hands-on stations

Objective-based practical sessions with an ultrasound machine and a human model, ensuring meaningful hands-on time for each participant. Includes a station dedicated to clinical case discussion.

Assessment (during the course)

A 40-question multiple-choice test (20 theory + 20 image/video questions). Passing score: minimum 50% correct answers.

Certificates
  • After the course, participants receive an Attendance Certificate issued by WINFOCUS WORLD.
  • For participants scoring ≥ 50%, and after supervised practice at their home institution (minimum 6 months), there is an option to apply for an examination leading to a Certificate of Competence within the scope of this course.
