the First World Congress on Ultrasound in Medical Education sponsored by The Society of Ultrasound in Medical Education and WINFOCUS is being hosted by the University of South Carolina School of Medicine April 29 –May 1, 2011 at the Columbia Convention Center.
This World Congress has been designed to bring together educators, practitioners, healthcare and education administrators, innovators, students, trainees, and those concerned about the quality of today’s healthcare to share experiences, expertise, and their thoughts on how best to incorporate the power of ultrasound into education and clinical practice. This is also a Congress to introduce the novice to ultrasound and serve as their starting point to future utilization. The Congress program will include state-of-the-art plenary sessions, concurrent sessions, expert panel presentations, abstract and poster presentations, hands-on ultrasound workshops, industry exhibits, AMA PRA Category 1 Credits and social activities/networking.
Within the frame of the Winfocus UNITED & ILC global initiatives, the congress will be also a milestone for clinical ultrasound history, aiming to address worldwide consensus, evidences, best practices, and standards in education, by the establishment of the "International Liaison Committee on UltraSound in Medical Education" (ILC USMED). By the next 2 years such a committee, seeking partnership with the major International & National universities, institutions, societies, hospitals, services, departments committed to education in ultrasound and health care, will develop the "First International Consensus Conference on UltraSound in Medical Education". Results will be integrated and harmonized with those ones coming by other International committes, for a comprehensive empowerment of technical, clinical, educational and organizational ultrasound standards [see "Development of evidence-based clinical recommendations and consensus statements in critical ultrasound field: why and how?"].
