Jun 2009 - Dec 2016
Mozambique PRIMUS project aims to improve Beira Central Hospital and Sofala District Hospitals health care services, by the implementation of ultrasound education, technology, and practice. Along a 6 years time span the project aims also to incorporate clinical ultrasound into Beira under-graduate medical school education in collaboration with the 'Universidade Católica de Moçambique'. According the vision of the Millennium Development Goals, maternal and child care in rural under-served areas will be the major targets of the project.
Winfocus is partnering with the UN Agency, OCCAM, the Italian/International Cooperation NGO, CUAMM, and the University of South Carolina, in order to develop ultrasound and health care within a full intersectorial development plan (see Alma Ata Declaration and the Appropriate Technology).
On June 2009, a delegation visited Beira (Mozambique), hosted in CUAMM Beira facilities, meeting key-decision makers from local Governement, University, and Beira central hospital. On November 2009 a pilot training is planned to start up the overall process.
Find below pictures from the last needs-assessment mission in Beira (June 22-25, 2009); the Mozambique event was followed by a quick trip to Maseru (Lesotho), in order to explore an additional PRIMUS project in the country over 2010.
